Parents are not stupid, if they give their child a credit card, they do it for a reason. They obviously trust their child to spend within reason. Also, not to sound like an idiot, but it is important that during the high school years students fit in with their peers. It makes education more effective and enjoyable. I had a credit card in my freshman year of high school, and let me tell you it saved me more than once when I didn't have enough cash at a restaurant with some friends. You can't possibly expect a child to stay behind and wash dishes or go to jail simply because they forgot to bring enough cash with them... That's just my opinion. I've learned how to pay my own bills every month which will help me in the future when im in college paying tutition and dorms fees. also i've learned the difference between wanting and needing and when it is appropiate to use the card. having a credit card has woked out great for me but i think it really depends on the priorties and maturity level of the kids. i’m 18 and ive had a credit card for about a year and it has been a great learning experience for me!
